SPIN 2015 will take place in late winter. This is not a vacation period in South Africa, but there may still be some tourists from the northern hemisphere. In any case, it is a good idea to arrange your flights and accommodation early.
Visitors from most EU countries, US, Canada, Japan, Australia and most of South America do not need a visa to visit South Africa. The complete list is available at the Department of Home Affairs. The Department also has the details for a visa application.
Letters of Invitation
Please contact us if you need an invitation letter; please note that we can issue such letters only after we have received the registration fee.
Getting to Stellenbosch
The closest airport to Stellenbosch is Cape Town International (CPT). Most international flights connect in Johannesburg, but there are direct flights from Angola, Botswana, Mauritius, Namibia, the Netherlands, Qatar, Singapore, Turkey, the UAE, and the UK, and seasonal direct flights from France, Germany, and Switzerland.

A rental car is one option, especially if you plan on a road-trip before of after the symposium. The best option is an airport shuttle which you should book ahead of time with a company such as:
What to do once you're here

Its character is dominated by the presense of the University of Stellenbosch and its role as the center of the Winelands Region. The town offers a rich variety of experiences for visitors:
